Orange Spain is the largest telecommunications operator in Spain by number of customers and one of the leading companies in the sector in the country. The company provides broadband and mobile services and, in addition, offers private and business customers TV, insurance, energy, alarm, consumer finance, healthcare, cybersecurity, private 5G networks and cloud services. To support these services, it relies on a first-class technological infrastructure and maintains a strong commitment to innovation, operational efficiency and digital transformation.

With the aim of incorporating Proxmoxas part of its virtualization infrastructure and optimizing the use of its existing technological resources, the design and implementation of a Proxmox VE cluster with Ceph distributed storage was carried out, reusing the servers already available at Orange Spain’s facilities in order to maximize the performance of the existing hardware and reduce investment in new equipment. This solution provides a robust, scalable virtualization platform designed to support critical workloads with a high level of availability, resilience and performance.

In addition to deploying the new cluster, the project included the migration of several virtual machines to the new environment. During this process, review and optimization tasks were also carried out, adjusting the configuration and resource allocation to improve performance.

Likewise, Orange Spain’s technical team completed the official Proxmox VE training delivered by our company, expanding their knowledge of the platform and acquiring the skills required to manage the virtualization environment autonomously and efficiently.

The excellent results achieved during the initial implementation have led to a new project involving the deployment of a second Proxmox VE Ceph cluster. This new infrastructure expands the platform’s capacity and reinforces the commitment to a virtualization strategy based on open-source, scalable and highly available technologies.
