Castrillon Town Hall

The Castrillon Town Hall is the local government institution of the municipality located in the Principality of Asturias, Spain. The municipality covers an area of 55.34 km² and has an approximate population of 22,124 inhabitants. Its capital and most populated town is Piedras Blancas.

It is responsible for municipal management and the provision of public services within its areas of competence, which include urban planning, culture, sports, and infrastructure, among others. In addition, it promotes projects aimed at technological modernization, administrative efficiency, and the continuous improvement of services for citizens.

Previously, its virtual infrastructure was based on Hyper-V servers. In order to improve the performance, availability, and scalability of the environment, a PVE (Proxmox Virtual Environment) cluster with Ceph distributed storage has been implemented.

Once the PVE cluster was set up, a complete migration of the infrastructure was carried out using the new integration feature between Veeam Backup and Proxmox, which made it possible to transfer the virtual machines to the new environment safely, efficiently, and with minimal service disruption.

With the modernization of the technological environment, Proxmox Backup Server (PBS) has been implemented as the main backup solution, as follows:

  • Local Backup: intended for immediate restorations, ensuring fast recovery of virtual machines and containers.
  • Remote Backup: based on our PBS Online services, it acts as an external backup and ensures the security and availability of the data at all times.

Thanks to this hybrid configuration, both local and cloud-based, along with the reuse of its old servers on which a Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) has been deployed, the Castrillon Town Hall now has an infrastructure that ensures the continuity of critical services and the protection of information against potential incidents.

The implementation of the UDS (Universal Desktop Service) infrastructure has been carried out. This system will enable the virtualization and centralized management of desktops and applications, providing users with secure, flexible, and remote access to their work environments from any device and location.

Likewise, Veeam Backup & Replication has been implemented to perform data-level backups through an immutable repository, which ensures protection against unauthorized modifications or deletions.

For the centralized management of secure remote access via VPN, FWCloud has been used, a solution developed by our programming department, which enables precise control and unified administration of security policies.
